What is BOTULINUM TOXIN?
Botulinum toxin, is a non-surgical cosmetic treatment that uses a protein derived from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum to temporarily relax facial muscles. Botulinum toxin is frequently used in facial aesthetic medicine to smooth dynamic wrinkles, reduce expression lines and rejuvenate the face.
Botulinum toxin treatment involves the following steps:
- Assessment and treatment design: the specialist will evaluate the skin condition and discuss the patient’s aesthetic concerns. Areas to be treated, such as frown lines, crow’s feet or forehead lines, will be identified.
- Botulinum toxin application: botulinum toxin is injected into the specific muscles responsible for wrinkles and expression lines. The process is quick and generally well tolerated. The specialist will use a fine needle to administer the injections precisely.
- Results and duration: Botulinum toxin temporarily blocks the contraction of the treated muscles, thus smoothing wrinkles and expression lines. Results become visible gradually in the days following treatment and usually last from three to six months, depending on the individual. To maintain results, it is recommended to schedule follow-up sessions.
